Chezlar sipped at the wine and put some thought in how to answer. "I... nudge, " he answered. "Everyone has possible paths to choose and some paths are more important than others. At least in the opinion of the Fates. Simply because the fate of many can be tied to the fate of one."
He set down his goblet and drew a finger across the table top, leaving a trail of glimmering essence, then crossed over it from the opposite direction. The essence separated into small threads and wove an intricate pattern. "Life is a tapestry. All the lives you touch, the lives you create or end. It is my job to avoid snags in the Fate's Loom. I whisper in ears, I guide hands and sometimes... I directly intervene.
"And yes, I can make time fly, I can draw it to a crawl. Time is a perception. I am everywhere and nowhere, I watch, I wait, and I execute the Fate's will."
He could also see all possibilities, all pathways taken. He had seen the people in this tap room make different choice and lead different lives. He knew faces of the people they would never meet, the faces of the children they would never have. All except The'ara, who was as closed to him as a locked chest.
