"Help?"she echoed, slightly confused yet still giddy. She slipped her hand into his and entwined their fingers together. "I'm not sure I follow your question. I just..." her eyelashes lowered, as did her voice "want to... get to know... you."
Ordinarily, that would have been the end of her sentence. She would have inwardly kicked herself in reminder that talking was not her forte and wished she had opted to go upstairs instead. She would have packed up whatever remaining words or thoughts that were left unsaid, tucking them back inside herself. But touching him had a soothing affect, prompting her to continue to explain.
"What does your job entail? Can anyone do it? I mean, hypothetically, if I were a job applicant, what would you say to me in explaining to me my duties? Do you, um," her quietly teasing tone came back. "Ensure that time flies the moment someone has fun and then slow it down to a snail's crawl if we happen to be... standing in line to register oneself at a clerk's office?"
