The'ara had assumed Cully was a youth. She didn't see him when he fell into the tree with his sister. When she arrived at the scene, her attention was diverted to the ladder. But once he spoke, she realized her grave error. Not only did he appear to be of like age to hers, but she found him rather handsome.
Whatever good humor and wit she might have had for a child, immediately withered. She tensed and gave a short nod before looking away, staring fixedly at his sister as if to ensure Menelanna reached the floor in safety.
*And great,* she thought. *Now his ass is going to be right in my face as he descends the ladder. Fantastic. As if this wasn't going to be awkward enough.*
