The Amazon's eyes sparkled. She hated coffee herself, but Galain loved the stuff. Hyper by nature he hardly needed it, but he was fun to watch when hyperdrive clicked in, and so was everyone else.
"That is indeed venison. One of my boys went hunting last night so its fresh." She paused as Jerri, a tall and pretty blonde Terran, poked her head out of the kitchen.
"Its ready," she announced. Her wealth of curly locks were swept up into a pony tail and she was dressed in ragged hemmed jean shorts and a cut off shirt that said 'Spank the cook... please.' "Two plates and more coffee?"
"Yes please, Jerri, and some lisse lante syrup," Thaya answered. She turned back to Derelie as Jerri bounced back into the kitchen.
"We are lucky to have her. She just sort of popped in one day and never left. She is a great cook."
Jerri emerged again carrying two plates, both laden with venison steaks, fresh steamed veggies and roasted potato wedges. She refilled Derelie's coffee and fetched a small pot of golden liquid with a spoon which she slid onto the bar next to the bard.
"Lisse lante syrup," Thaya explained, "not quite honey but it tastes exactly the same. It comes from my home world." And didn't involve messing with bees in the getting of it.
