Zoroka noticed how his eyes softened at the mention of his brother, how his lips dropped his pretense of a smile. But he clearly did not want to talk about it. The nod she gave him was slight. Enough that she understood and at the same time, offered her sympathies.
Her hand tucked under her belt and slapped the table with a metal clink. Scrapping its contents across the table toward him, she removed her hand, revealing twenty gold coins. In case he needed spending money while they stayed at the Green heart and waited. Twenty gold was enough to keep him fed and sheltered for a time with a little extra for the nice things in life, should he require it. She figured she could spare twenty gold. It wasn't so extravagant an amount that if he went gallivanting away, she'd be too terribly inconvenienced.
"I don't always pay in advance," her voice hardened almost in proportion to her caring gesture, "so don't get used to that."
She couldn't have him thinking she actually cared about people.
