Rhys didn't try to interrupt, just letting the ladies speak. Most of what they said was news to him too. A fist seemed to squeeze his heart as Helen's hand touched his. His fingers curled around hers lightly, not tight enough to hold her if she needed to get free, but enough to show his support.
"I hadn't realised I was so out of touch," he said softly. He looked across at Helen.
"I'm sorry, Helen. I had no idea. I haven't been to Whispin or anywhere like that since..." He broke off. Since he had left Haven. Since he had given up waiting for someone who never seemed to be coming home. Guilt speared him.
